From the Principal

Dr. Charles C. Polk School is committed to ensuring student success in learning. This commitment begins with an environment which nurtures and supports students physically, emotionally, socially, and academically. Our small and personalized structures allow for individualized and differentiated instruction. The commitment continues in the K-3 years with challenging curriculums and opportunities for students to explore their interests. Student experiences are not just limited to academics. Children learn life skills and values through theme programs and assemblies.

Our programs enable students to participate and explore real-world experiences through an interdisciplinary array of skill from math, language arts, science, social studies, technology and liberal arts. Highlights of our programming include:

• Targeted Services Before/After School Program (Academic)
• Reading Interventions (Early Intervention in Reading, Drop Everything and Read)
• Character Education
• Performing Arts & Drama Club
• Man, Inc. Mentoring
• Book-It
• Science Fair

We encourage our parents to be involved in their child's education by reading with them thirty (30) minutes daily and by keeping the lines of communication open between home and school. Research shows that home-school communication is a positive factor in a child’s school experience. We encourage you to be a member of the school PTO, attend parent meetings such as Open House, Parent-Teacher Conferences and Activities. Establish an open line of communication between you and your child’s teacher. Know what they are learning. Share concerns you have for your child and encourage your child’s teacher to keep you informed. Education is a partnership between school, home and community.

Our commitment to providing the best possible learning experience for your child is never ending. We continue to learn new and innovative ways to deliver instruction. All of us at Dr. Charles C. Polk hope the 2009-2010 school year is a positive growth experience for your child and for you. Please contact us anytime to help us better serve you.

Sincerely,
